My name is Ofir Reich and this is my blog. It has stories from my travels around the world (mostly in Africa but also in North America, Nepal & India), where I find random people in remote areas to host me in their home, stay with them for a few days, and then write about their life and what it makes me think and feel. I try to combine interesting stories and photos with deeper observations about what separates people from different cultures, and what unites them. Each post is half Hebrew half English. If you only speak English you should still be able to pick up what’s going on. See popular posts above.

    Hey Ofir,

I found your blog through the 80,000 hours podcast. Thanks for sharing your experiences and thoughts here and in the podcast! I find it very inspirational. Just to pick out two things:

    1. I liked that you touched upon burn out in EA. It’s something that I agree is important to acknowledge. I think it also has to do with striking the balance between caring for yourself and caring for others. That’s a very delicate balance to strike. I feel that EA style thinking has the potential to make one more inclined to neglect oneselve under the impression that a certain action is more effective in creating impact for others. At the same time EA and it’s rigour are of course super important and valuable. Developing a more mindful and ‘playful’ attitude to EA is something I find very interesting.

    2. For me, the essence of your blog can be summarized in the words ‘humility’, ‘wholeness’ and ‘curiosity’. I know that’s a bit vague, but I hope you get what I mean. These themes drew me to this blog and make me look forward to your future posts.
